Black Women wearing weave does not equal self hate.
I hate defending this over and over again. I have been natural for 8 years. Didn’t do a Big Chop or rock a Teeny Weeny Afro. I didn’t go natural because my hair was damaged or did not grown. I only wanted to stop getting relaxers because I did not get them often and I hated chemical burns.
While transitioning and even now I like to wear weave sometimes. Sew ins for me are a great way to give my hair a rest. No I don’t hate that I don’t have hair like Rapunzel nor am I covering up an insecurity. I simply like weave. That’s its that’s all.
It’s only black people especially Black men that have this stupid theory that a black woman wearing a weave mean she does love herself. Newsflash WE ARE THE ONLY WOMEN THAT WEAR WEAVE! Whether you believe it or not white women and other women that are not black wear weave as well. They’ve done it for years. How come they don’t get the backlash for it? Why is that white women can dye their hair blonde & it’s not frowned upon? I’m thoroughly confused.
Stop with the brain washed theories. Black women are unique when it comes to our hair. We are versatile when it comes to styling it. We do not hate ourselves. We love being able to switch it up to express who we are.
